On January 11, the inauguration ceremony of the "Non-metallic Materials Innovation Center" jointly established by China National Building Materials Group Co., Ltd. and Saudi Aramco was held in Beijing. Compared with traditional materials used in construction, non-metallic materials, including advanced petroleum-based composite materials, are more durable and have lower maintenance costs, which will play an important role in promoting China's low-carbon infrastructure construction.

Ahmed Saadi expressed his warm congratulations on the establishment of the Innovation Center through a video link in Saudi Arabia. He said that over the past two decades, Saudi Aramco has been developing and deploying non-metallic materials in pipelines and construction projects, and has accumulated rich experience. This strategic cooperation with China National Building Materials Group has unlimited potential and will certainly accelerate the development and application of non-metallic materials, improve sustainability, and create significant value for mankind and society as a whole.

In his speech, Zhan Yanjing put forward three hopes for the innovation center to build an international platform and lead the innovation and development of the materials field: first, to build an international open R & D platform. The center should be guided by the development strategies of the Group and Saudi Aramco, connect, integrate and serve the national strategies of China and Saudi Arabia, focus on the main business advantages of both sides, and carry out joint research and development. The second is to build an international achievement transformation platform. The center should build a mutually beneficial and win-win industrial chain and supply chain cooperation system, and accelerate the transformation of scientific and technological achievements into productivity. The third is to build an international demonstration application platform. The center should lead international development with innovation, share the best and excellent technologies in the industry, enhance the independent innovation capabilities of both parties, and promote the radiation of innovation results to more countries along the "Belt and Road.

Khalid al-Katani, chief engineer of Saudi Aramco, said the center is the first non-metallic materials innovation center established by Saudi Aramco in Asia after the United States. Anwo Hogazi, President of Aramco Asia, mentioned that in the past 30 years, Saudi Aramco and Chinese partners have gone far beyond crude oil trade and expanded to technology research and development and many other fields. I am very happy to be in the field of non-metallic materials. The partnership has achieved fruitful results, and the establishment of the center will further consolidate our cooperation in related fields.

Ma Zhenzhu said that China Building Materials Institute will provide strong technical support and create an open and innovative high-quality platform to lead green and low-carbon development. Hou Diyang, deputy general manager of China Building Materials Institute, said that the center will vigorously promote advanced petroleum-based composite materials to play a more important role in infrastructure construction.

Dr. Li Juan of China National Building Materials Institute, as the director of the Innovation Center, introduced the vision, objectives and operation structure of the Center.
