President Xi Jinping wrote back to Bill Gates, co-chairman of the Gates Foundation, on February 20, thanking him and the Gates Foundation for their support for China's efforts to prevent and control the new coronary pneumonia epidemic, and calling on the international community to strengthen coordination and work together to fight the epidemic.

In his reply, Xi Jinping said that at a critical moment in China's fight against the new coronary pneumonia epidemic, the foundation led by you and your wife has generously contributed, and you have written to me to express your support for the Chinese people, for which I would like to express my heartfelt thanks.

Xi Jinping pointed out that after the outbreak of the epidemic, I put forward the general requirements of firm confidence, mutual assistance, scientific prevention and control, and precise implementation of policies. We have used the strength of the whole country to prevent and control, adopted a series of unprecedented prevention, control and treatment measures, and achieved significant results. We resolutely safeguard the life safety and health of the Chinese people, as well as the life safety and health of people all over the world, and strive to contribute to global public health security.

Xi Jinping said that I have always said that mankind is a community of destiny. Solidarity and cooperation are the most powerful weapons to overcome epidemics that affect the safety of the people of all countries. The Gates Foundation has played an active role in joining the global fight against the new coronary pneumonia epidemic early on. I support the cooperation between the Gates Foundation and relevant Chinese institutions. I also expect the international community to strengthen coordination and work together to safeguard human health and well-being.

The Gates Foundation was jointly established by Bill Gates and his wife Melinda, and has long-term cooperation with China in various fields such as disease prevention and control, poverty alleviation and poverty reduction. On January 27, the Gates Foundation announced a $5 million emergency grant to support China's fight against the new coronary pneumonia epidemic. After that, it promised to invest up to US $0.1 billion in grants, part of which will be used to directly help China accelerate the research and development of drugs, vaccines and diagnostic methods. Recently, Bill Gates sent a special letter to President Xi Jinping, praising the performance of the Chinese government and people in the fight against the epidemic and expressing his firm support for China to win this crucial battle.
