The construction sector is a major carbon emitter. The "China Building Energy Consumption Research Report (2020)" shows that in 2018, the total carbon emissions of the entire construction process in the country were 4.93 billion tons, accounting for 51.3 of the country's carbon emissions. It is estimated that China's annual construction consumption of cement, glass and steel accounts for 45%, 42% and 35% of the total global consumption respectively. It can be seen that carbon reduction in the construction sector has become a key part of China's goal of achieving carbon peak and carbon neutrality.

Vigorously developing green building is the only way to reduce carbon in the construction field. In the future, my country should further improve the level of green building standards and provide the people with safe, durable, healthy and comfortable, convenient living, resource-saving and environmentally livable high quality buildings. At the same time, we should further improve the management system of green building logo, and further lead the development of green building with green building logo. We should also promote the coordinated development of green finance and green buildings, and let green finance play a role in supporting the development of green cities with green buildings as the core.
The number of green buildings should be gradually increased. As of the end of 2019, the proportion of new green buildings in cities and towns across the country that year accounted for 65% of new civil buildings. The total area of green buildings built in cities and towns across the country exceeded 5 billion square meters, and more than 20000 projects nationwide received green building logos. Relevant departments have determined that by 2022, the proportion of green building area in new urban buildings will reach 70%.
In addition to vigorously developing green buildings, carbon reduction in the construction sector should further carry out energy-saving work in existing buildings, vigorously develop green construction methods such as prefabricated buildings, and reduce resource consumption in the construction industry and realize the conversion of new and old kinetic energy by supporting the promotion and application of green building materials products and reducing construction waste.
In the future, the construction industry needs to use technological innovation to promote the continuous transformation of the industry, such as the integration of green buildings and the Internet, the use of Internet of Things, cloud computing, big data and other technologies to improve the effects of energy saving, water saving, and material saving, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The "green" should be truly integrated into the whole life cycle of the building to achieve harmony and unity between the building and the environment.
